Nets’ G.M. Suspended for Going Into the Referees’ Locker Room

The N.B.A. has suspended Sean Marks, the general manager of the Nets, for one game for going into the referees’ locker room after Saturday’s contentious matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers at Barclays Center in which two players were ejected for a brawl.

Marks also was fined $25,000, the league announced Sunday. The suspension will keep Marks away from Game 5 of the first-round series between the Nets and Sixers in Philadelphia. The Sixers lead the series, three games to one.

The series has had its share of trash talk, hard fouls and insults, all of which seemed to come to a head in the third quarter of Game 4. Joel Embiid, the Sixers center who was called for a flagrant 1 foul in Game 2 for elbowing the Nets’ Jarrett Allen, again fouled Allen hard in Game 4, striking him across the arms. This time, the Nets’ Jared Dudley responded by running across the court and shoving Embiid. Philadelphia’s Jimmy Butler shoved Dudley, and a mass of players trying to end the shoving match tumbled into the stands.

Butler and Dudley were ejected, and Embiid was again charged with a flagrant 1 foul. The Nets lost the game, 112-108, after a slew of turnovers and missed shots but also amid a string of what players complained were uncalled fouls. The Nets now face elimination in Game 5.
